"Malibu Rising" by Taylor Jenkins Reid Friday, October 15, The outside Porch at The Club at New Seabury. The author’s interesting biography and having attended Emerson College in Boston (known for theater and the arts), indicated to us, that Ms. Reid, perhaps, wrote this type of novel because of a keen interest in pop culture. This book is perfect for summer; movie stars and surfing, flawed but loving siblings, and an epic party that ends in disaster.
The WCNS Book Club met on Friday, September 17th to discuss the novel “The Girl with the Louding Voice” by Abi Dare. There were nine attendees(largest group since inception) at the meeting and the discussion focused on the “strong woman” protagonist in this novel, as well as all the previous novel choices. A lively and heartfelt discussion revealed that our very own group consisted of strong women in their own right!!
We discussed "A Giver of Stars" by Jojo Moyes. It is about packhorse librarians in a remote area of Kentucky. Set in Depression-era America, The Giver of Stars is the story of five extraordinary women and their journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond.
Also, discussed changing the meeting time to Friday mornings in the hopes of attracting new members.
We held a Traditional Tea at The Club at New Seabury from noon > 2PM. Hats and fascinators optional. Historian, author, and artist Karen Rinaldo has been depicting the pleasures of the Cape since she was a teen. Her large canvas of "The First Thanksgiving - 1621" hung in Plimoth Plantation for 20 years and is now on exhibit at the Museums on the Green in Falmouth. Ms. Rinaldo teamed with Kevin M.
